Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a branch of Psychology that is concerned with how the brain and other areas of the nervous system influence an individuals cognition and behaviours. Neuropsychologists also work with individuals that have experienced a TBI (traumatic brain injury) or an illness of the brain and how it affects cognitive functioning and behaviour.

In South Africa, the HPCSA has only recently included Neuropsychology as a formalized registration. Neuropsychologists can only be trained at the University of Cape Town currently, or be accepted through a grandfathering process, should the individual have the appropriate experience and registration as a Psychologist.
